  • Retired KY Army National Guard Commissioned Officer
  • VP, Enterprise Risk Management at Toyota Tsusho America
  • Small Business Owner

Matt Nunn brings a wealth of leadership experience to the table. He held a distinguished military career in the Kentucky Army National Guard as a Commissioned Officer. Matt also has an extensive corporate background with Toyota Tsusho America, currently working as their Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management. Matt Nunn is running to be the Republican nominee representing Kentucky's 17th State Senate District. He is a devoted Christian, husband to Ashley, and father of Emma & Easton.

From an early age, Matt Nunn learned the importance of hard work and determination. Born in Cincinnati in 1978, Matt was raised by a single mother who worked tirelessly to provide for their family. She showed Matt that circumstances do not dictate your future and with God’s providence, each of us can build a good life through hard work and sound decision-making.

When he was sixteen, Matt and his mother moved back home to Bell County, Kentucky so she could care for her dying father. The move was supposed to be temporary, but when Matt’s grandpa died six months later, Matt asked to stay because he loved it there. Even though he spent the first sixteen years of his life in Cincinnati (and the last twenty-two in central Kentucky), the mountains of southeastern Kentucky are where Matt found a deep sense of belonging and community – and what he thinks of when he thinks of home.

Matt’s military career always ran parallel with his civilian career at Toyota Tsusho America. His success in both careers is a testament to his work ethic and determination. At Toyota Tsusho, Matt honed his skills in relationship-building, strategic problem-solving, and communication. Being promoted several times to higher levels of responsibility, Matt has been tasked with forming two completely new departments and asked to lead departments to improve their operations – including the Human Resources department for North America during COVID.

Matt met his wife Ashley in 2005. As Matt says, “To know my wife Ashley is to love her. And those of you that do know her, understand exactly why I dropped to one knee so quickly after we met!” Ashley makes Matt a better man with her intelligence, tenacity, and faith. She is a big part of why Matt and Ashley own their small business today.

Matt and Ashley own and operate a small business in Georgetown. Running a local business has made Matt more understanding of the challenges facing our small business owners and entrepreneurs. Matt’s service on multiple boards, including the Georgetown-Scott County Chamber of Commerce and Scott County United, have further developed his understanding of economic development initiatives in the region.

Even with all of those demands on his time, Matt finds time to serve his community in other ways. He has coached several seasons of youth sports, volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, and served at his church.
